Car rental prices in Kosovo by season, and why July and August cost more
By Rento · Updated Oct 30, 2026
The short answer
July and August are the expensive weeks. They are Prishtina Airport’s busiest months, when much of Kosovo’s diaspora comes home: 513,708 passengers in August 2025, against 307,418 in February (Civil Aviation Authority of Kosovo).
On Rento, a company can set a higher daily price for the weeks it chooses, and a minimum number of days for them. Both show before you pay: the price in your total, the minimum on the calendar.
Longer rentals bring the daily price down: many cars cost less per day from a set length, and the whole rental gets that rate.
The summer peak
In 2025 Prishtina International Airport handled 4,600,484 passengers. August was the busiest month and July the next; February and March were the quietest. Its busiest routes were Basel, Zurich and Düsseldorf, and Germany and Switzerland sent the most passengers (Civil Aviation Authority of Kosovo).

The roads fill up too. The UK government notes delays at Kosovo’s border crossings with Albania, North Macedonia and Serbia, common around festive periods and in the summer months (UK government).
Seasonal prices
A company on Rento can set a different daily price for a window of dates, such as a summer price. The days of your rental that fall inside it are charged at that price, and your total lists them as Seasonal rate.
So search with your dates. Every car you then see is free for those days, and its price is the total for your whole trip, seasonal days included.
Minimum days in busy weeks
A company can also ask for a minimum rental over a busy window, for example at least 5 days in high summer. Outside the window, any length is fine.
- A dot under a day on the booking calendar means a minimum applies on it.
- A rental that starts inside the window always needs the minimum. One that only runs into it may not; that depends on the company.
- Too short? The booking can’t be paid, and the checkout says how many days you need: “These dates need a rental of 5 days or more.”
Longer rentals cost less per day
Many cars get cheaper per day from a set length, such as 7 or 30 days. The car page shows it under Rent for longer, pay less.
- The whole rental gets the rate. A 10-day rental at the 7-day rate pays it on all 10 days.
- The rates only go down with length. A company can’t set a 30-day rate above its 7-day rate.
Booking for July or August
- Book early. They are the busiest weeks of the year at the airport.
- Pay to hold the dates. On Rento, dates are held only once you pay; asking a company doesn’t reserve them.
- Pick your dates first. The calendar shows where a minimum applies before you plan around it.
- Allow for border queues if you are driving on to Albania or North Macedonia (taking a Kosovo rental car abroad).
